COVID has brought vast changes throughout our daily lives, not only to our physical schedules, but to our mindsets as well. I am grateful to be safe at home, but with the extra time quarantine provides, it can become easy to nitpick ourselves! To avoid this, I promised myself I would do all I can to stay Body Positive during COVID. Whether it means rocking Spanx leggings that make me feel fantastic, or taking a look in the mirror to remind myself I am beautiful just the way I am, every day I do something to keep that going! My #bopo journey had it’s fair share of hurdles, so what’s a global pandemic got on my body positivity!? NOTHING! Here are some tips that I have been doing lately to stay Body Positive at home!
1. DON’T COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS: That old quote “comparison is the thief of joy,” has stuck around for good reason. Comparing yourself to others can sometimes cause self-doubt. Remember to lift others up and only compare yourself to you. You’re perfect just the way you are!
2. EXPRESS BODY-LOVE DAILY: We all have little pockets of insecurity, even if you are body positive! Instead of negativity, try expressing appreciation towards parts of your body you like! I like my eyes and curves, so when I look in the mirror, I tell myself that. You don’t need to celebrate every inch of your physique, but do celebrate your body as a whole, because it’s beautiful, and so are you.
3. STRETCH OR MOVE AROUND THE HOUSE: Stretching every day, or taking a lap around the house, gives me endorphins and I mentally feel a little clearer! When I am thinking clearly, I am less likely to be hard on myself. I move to feel better and be kind to my body, not to look a certain way. My Spanx activewear outfit is perfect for moving or stretching with curves! They have an incredible plus-size line that lets you move comfortably while being supported.
4. GET YOUR STYLE ON: Just because we aren’t leaving the house much, doesn’t mean we need to exclusively be in our PJs! I have tried to get dressed each morning to put a little spring in my step, and I find that when I put on a good outfit that lets my inner confidence shine, I feel unstoppable. I love styling my Spanx leggings with a white button down or sweater for an elevated athleisure look, too!
5. (VIRTUALLY) SURROUND YOURSELF WITH POSITIVE PEOPLE: Whether it’s your Instagram feed or your text chains, try to surround yourself with positive people that you can lean on. If an account sparks self-doubt, unfollow! It’s all good! Find those who spark joy for you and lift each other up.
6. REMEMBER BEAUTY ULTIMATELY COMES FROM WITHIN: Even though every single body is beautiful and worthy of acceptance, style, and celebration, remember that none of that is possible without the beauty from within. Your worth is based off of who you are as a person, and if you are at peace with your inner self, you will be more able to be at peace with your outer self.
