I’m admittedly late to the Stanley cup game. But, so many of you have expressed that you’re still on the fence whether or not one is worth it, and have asked some great questions. So, I wanted to cover them all in one place and share my review! If you’re not familiar, The Stanley Cup is a $40 (mostly) temperature controlled large mug with a handle and straw that fits in standard cup holders. It always seems to be sold out, because those who love it, really love it. But, there are some fair assessments out there on TikTok and Instagram about the cup that may not make it worth it for you personally, depending on your preferences. In my opinion, this is really more of a large mug/cup meets a water bottle vs. a traditional water bottle you might use for sports or toss in your bag. So, if you would like my thoughts on it, keep reading!
Let’s get right to it, $40 is not exactly inexpensive when it comes to a water bottle. Yet, I think that for those who use it everyday, and it provides some solutions, it’s worth it! I will say, this is a cup that I’ve grown to love. It’s become as simple as where I go, the cup goes! While I live in a downtown, I still spend a good amount of time in my car. I prefer larger water bottles, so I had yet to find one that fits in my car cup holder and held the amount of liquid I needed. While a bit heavy when full, I love how much water it holds. Previously, my water bottle would sit in the passenger seat and routinely roll into the foot well. So, this was a major win for me. The sip/straw feature is not unique to this cup, but the triple threat of cup holder usage, sturdy handle, and straw is what sets it apart in my eyes (and made me fall in love with it). Whether I’m in my car, at the grocery store, or walking on the treadmill, the cup just fits. I also think in about 5-6 months when our baby is here, it will be great in a stroller cup holder. Lastly, The cup is dishwasher safe, and for something I use so often, it makes things a little easier (I wash the straw by hand). It’s important to wash your water bottles often, so I love this component!
The cup is meant to be temperature controlled; however, it doesn’t keep things ice cold as long as say a Yeti would that has a truly sealed lid (the straw lets air in). But, I can put ice in the cup overnight and I will wake up and the ice will mostly still be there. In my estimation, it does a pretty good job at keeping things cold. But, if your #1 preference in a water bottle is that air-tight super cold factor, there are better options. I know spillage is also something to make note of because of the straw setup. I have yet to run into a spill situation, but if this is something you’d anticipate, it may not be the best cup for you. Phoebe recently turned me on to the lids you can purchase if you want to throw the cup in your bag or have a sip top vs a straw – a great solution, too! Finally, as I mentioned above, the cup does get heavy as you would anticipate with such a large mug. So, if you want something that is lightweight to carry, this might not be it.
At the end of the day, this is just a cup/water bottle, so if it’s not for you, no sweat! Overall, I am a big fan of The Stanley Cup. Ever since it arrived, I have used it every single day. Plain and simple, if you have a cup holder lifestyle (idk if that’s even a term but we’re rolling with it), this will be great. But, if your main concerns are potential spills and that airtight temp control, I would opt for a standard water Simple Modern, Yeti or Hydroflask bottle! I’m not a water bottle connoisseur, but I hope this was helpful! Also, I got my cup at REI and Stanley does restocks of the cup often. It’s usually sold out, just check their website for the heads-up of when it’s restocked.
Can never have an on-the-go cup that’s too large!!! And it looks cute, too.
This is super helpful! I’m on the hunt for a new water cup bottle – sounds crazy but it’s like the Holy Grail. That gallon bottle straw thing hasn’t done it for me. I want to buy less water and I need a baby/child safe vessel that can become my new best friend. Lol.
I was literally Just considering this and it will help my decision making.
Also – can I just say again how happy I am for you guys.
