Hey guys! Elsa here. One of the questions I get asked the most is “How do you shop Tuckernuck?” well, I am here to help! Tuckernuck is a USA-based brand that embodies classic style, their essence really captures the all-American vibe and preppy spirit. They are one of my favorite retailers, and while they do not carry the entire repertoire of extended sizes, they do carry XL and XXL in silhouettes that work well with curves. I love their accessories, and you can definitely create the look if there isn’t something you feel would work for your body type. I keep my fingers crossed that they will continue to extend their sizes more and more!
Here, I’m wearing their Jamie Dress and it is amazing, I think I will acquire it in every pattern should they release it in more (hoping they do). It is tailored across the chest but flowy and dreamy in the body. It also just went on sale! I picture myself wearing it with gold Jack Rogers come Summer.
Let’s get started. The three things I pay attention to while shopping Tuckernuck are: 1. Designer 2. Silhouette 3. Accessories.
- Designer: Tuckernuck has an in-house line, the Tuckernuck Collection, which carries many pieces up to XXL. I am so obsessed, words do not even begin to describe. Their cuts are usually generous in the midsection, and I find them to be flattering and comfortable. I go to whatever category clothing I am interested in, and I filter by designer selecting Tuckernuck. I then filter by size, selecting X-Large and XX-Large. I have enough pieces from Tuckernuck Collection to confidently say that their XXL would fit a 1x. If you are curvy and heading to their site, the Tuckernuck Collection is the designer which you want to be shopping. They also have Vineyard Vines, Pomander Place, and Sail to Sable that carry larger sizes.
- Silhouettes: Once I have filtered the sizes to XL and XXL and designer to Tuckernuck, I look for the right silhouette. Look for swing, a-line and flowy silhouettes. Sweaters have a little stretch, so I do not get concerned about finding a flowy or swing silhouette in that department. I find that they really understand some women prefer things less fitted, so they have a ton of options that are flowy to keep things comfortable yet stylish. Most of their tops allow for a little more room, which as a curvy woman I appreciate greatly. I tend to gravitate towards their tops, dresses, and skirts. Here are some of my favorites:
- Accessories: If you find that things don’t jive with your body, accessories are an amazing way to create the look. Before Tuckernuck added in XXL, I would pair one of their silk scarves and earrings with a white button down and denim. Just pick out a few statement accessories and style them with simple closet staples like t-shirts, button downs, and easy dresses. They have so many affordable earrings, clutches and scarves, you can just pair and wear to easily get that classic Tuckernuck look.
There ya have it! When I shop Tuckernuck, I look out for their in-house line, in flowy or forgiving silhouettes, and pair with some of their accessories. It’s the best formula for any curvy girl who wants that all-American, Tuckernuck look!
