Athleta Extended Size Review

A few weeks ago I shared how I had such an awesome experience walking into my local Athleta. Let me tell you, I love Athleta. We live one block away from an Athleta and over the years, if I needed something in a pinch, I would just run right over. But, as my body changed I wasn’t able to shop in person as often, since I needed an xxl or a 1x in a lot of items. However, recently they began carrying extended sizes in-store! I comfortably wear most of their casual items in an xxl, and a 1x  in their activewear. So, I was over the moon because I could feel and try the items right in person and walk away with the best fit. I am obsessed.

 

I tried on a variety of Athleta items. I wanted a simple monochrome activewear outfit that I could throw on to get coffee, wear for a leisurely walk, or actually workout in. Thus, the bottoms I was seeking needed to be high-waisted and performance, but also soft and cute! I ended up walking away with a pair of leggings, a sports bra crop top and the cutest ribbed tank (I also got this sweatshirt a while ago). It was really hard for me to narrow it down to one outfit, because everything was so fantastic. I found the extended size proportions to be wonderful and accurate. It seems like they put a lot of research and thought into the plus range, instead of just simply increasing the measurements on their regular sizes (if that makes sense). 

The Athleta leggings, oh my God, the LEGGINGS! You may or may not know I am a Fabletics lover, but truthfully, these are better. The style I chose is a high-waisted capri style. I sized up one size from my normal size and had no waist rolling, no pulling down in the leg area, and didn’t need to constantly hike them up. They STAY IN PLACE. I repeat, they stay in place. It’s so refreshing. The material on these is also crazy soft. I hate how we use “butter” to describe fabric LOL, but these are as buttery as it gets. I find these work so well with curves, I looked in the mirror and just felt amazing. These leggings also have two side pockets, perfect for your phone or credit card while on the go. BRAVO, ATHLETA! 

Over on Instagram, I’ve been wearing this tank quite a bit on stories and I haven’t gotten this many questions on an item in a while! Athleta really nailed it with this tank. Something I’ve always struggled with is how activewear tanks swoop down too far in the chest, giving me unwanted cleavage while I’m trying to move. This high-neck option makes me feel comfortable and confident. The angle that the arms cut down is also super feminine and flattering. The armholes are proportioned perfectly. I thought at first it would make me look broader, but it actually makes my arms look longer and sleek! The fabric has a super luxe feeling and the ribbing provides nice compression. I want this tank in a pretty cream or olive color too! The tank ran true to size for the most part, I got my normal 1x in activewear here. Here are a bunch of size-inclusive options from Athleta.

I also got this Athleta sports bra crop top, too. When I first saw it, I thought it was a full coverage sports bra that had the neckline I was looking for. So, when I got home and tried it on, I thought oh no what did I do?! But, I WAS SO PLEASANTLY SURPRISED. The Conscious crop is made for D- DD cup sizes, they also have A-C sizes. It works so well, I am not much of a crop top person, but this my friends, is so good. My friend Carly has the same one in a bunch of colors and raved to me about it. It has a good amount of support in the chest, comes with padded, removable inserts and has a nice high neck that provides further compression and coverage. When paired with these high waisted leggings, I love how it doesn’t show too much of my mid-section. Just the right amount that I feel fresh, fun and current, but I am covered enough that I’m still in my comfort zone. I actually layer this under the tank I got, and it works perfectly! I got the 1x. 

Overall, I have to give Athleta an A+. If I could give a higher grade than that, I would. I did try on a couple of shorts and skorts, but they didn’t have their longer length options in stock in my store. I am hoping to try them again in the longer lengths and give a review, because they are so cute. That being said, Athleta extended sizes are truly fantastic.
