There are three things in my closet that, no matter the season or the reason, I wear multiple times a week, both separately and together. If you’ve ever read our about page, you know my go-to outfit is a striped breton, polished denim, and loafers! I truly cannot imagine my closet without these particular pieces, and whether I style one, two or all three together, I am always happy.
1. Striped Breton Tee. Navy and white striped tees are so neutral and timeless. I find that some stripes definitely lean towards Summer/Spring vibes, but when styled the right way, a simple navy or black and white is seasonless. My two favorites are this Vineyard Vines one (regular and plus) and this Boden one (up to size 22, but check size guide). I can throw them on in a pinch and I know I’ll be pulled together, but comfortable. I wear them to work with a blazer and a skirt, tucked into dress pants with a scarf, or, (mainly) on the weekends with jeans and joggers. I literally wear this tee every weekend.
2. Polished Dark Wash Denim: I love a good pair of dark wash straight/skinny blue denim, they just feel more elevated and versatile than light washes. They make the cut I’m wearing in a range of nice dark washes, and I get them from my favorite brand for everyday jeans, available in regular and plus (in skinny styles, I size up!). No matter what I pair them with, I feel great and look polished! They are so flattering, hit at the right spots, and I never have to question my confidence in them. You can style with a blouse or a blazer to dress things up, or with a breton or sweater for a casual look.
3. Needlepoint slippers/loafers: Easy. Classic. Comfortable. Worth it. I have several pairs of needlepoint smoking shoes (aka slip on loafers), they are so timeless. I wear them more than any pair of shoes in my closet, and style them with leggings, denim, shirt dresses and work pants. I love Stubbs and Wootton and Paige slippers (more affordable), they are both an investment, but I have had some for over ten years. They are comfortable, but not a comfort shoe, and once you break them in, you’ll turn to them almost daily. Plus, I am a needlepointer so these really speak to me!
Hi Elsa, just another Purely-Simple fan here! Thank you for all the lovely posts. I noticed your favorite jeans for a polished denim look at from The Loft. I wear those as well, and wonder if you have any issues will the color/dye coming off on your tops, purse, top edge of your booties, even light interior car seats? This happens to me only in the Loft darker jeans. Do you have a remedy?
Thanks.
Hi Carol! I have not experienced this issue, but I usually wash my darker wash jeans alone once before wearing and it seems to get any excess indigo out of the denim.
