WHY A GOOD SHIRTDRESS IS A MUST

I’ve been a little MIA this week. One, it’s a pandemic lol. Two, I took a step back to really think about what content I as a curvy woman both want to produce, and have needed to see myself! What really sparks joy for me, is helping other curvy or plus-size women find their stride in timeless style. I am here to encourage confidence and share my tips as a curvy woman navigating the classic style landscape. Lately, I have been thinking a lot about quality staples, and how important they are in any woman’s closet. But especially in a curvy gal’s closet! Also, how adorable are my clutch and hat? J. McLaughlin always has the best accessories that take an outfit from easy to 100 in a pinch.

To me, a shirtdress is a closet must and no different than a little black dress. A solid, neutral shirtdress is such a versatile piece. When you find the right one, you can get dressed in a pinch without second guessing yourself! They work at home, in the office, when out and about, at (socially distant) gatherings, for date night and more! With a shirtdress, any shoe, accessory and jacket/sweater combination will pretty much work! My two favorite warm weather looks are sandals with a hat or flats with a silk scarf! In chillier months, I love to pair with a blazer and booties or loafers and a layered cable knit sweater.

But let’s call it how it is, anything button down is tough when you have a large chest. Also, a lot of shirtdresses are shift-style which are harder on curves when you sit down. They always ride up! So, below are my two favorite shirtdresses that have my no-chest-gaping seal of approval! (I am a 44D for reference) One that goes up to an xxl and one that is a true plus-size. They both are the perfect balance between being comfortable, having enough coverage, and looking crisp. Most importantly, they both serve as the perfect palette for any timeless look. The ultimate classic style goal!

FOR PLUS SIZE: THE FOXCROFT BLACK SHIRTDRESS

You guys know how much I love Foxcroft. They gifted me a shirt from their travel line last Spring and I loved it. So, I immediately purchased this black button down dress from the same line. I find that the skirt mixed with the button down silhouette breaks things up nicely and does not ride up when you sit. The combination is also SUPER flattering. There is no button gaping and I purchased my true 16w. Their plus proportions are VERY accurate! Runs true to size. My other plus size pick is below!

FOR UP TO XXL: THE TUCKERNUCK NAVY MIDI SHIRTDRESS

When I saw this shirtdress, I knew I had to have it. It is such a great price point and I adored the puff sleeves. I am wearing the xxl and find that the fit is generous and similar to a 1x. The material is a cotton with sheen that I found irons well, but can use a little starch to keep the fabric crisp. The shape is a-line which I absolutely love because sometimes shift silhouettes can ride up when you are sitting. At first the puff sleeve intimidated me, but it became my favorite detail!
