I am sure many of us are doing Valentine’s Day or Galentine’s Day at home this year! We actually do it at home every year and it’s one of my favorite holidays to decorate for. I wanted to share a sweet and savory snack plate that I made for our family heading into Valentine’s Day weekend. You can easily make this with a few things you pick up at the grocery store, I just ran in and grabbed the items, and it looks like you put in more effort than you actually did!
What you need:
- Wheel of Brie
- Block of Cheddar
- Crackers
- Salami
- Chocolate covered pretzel rods chocolate pieces
- Strawberries or raspberries
- Chocolate pieces different than the pretzel rods
- Pink and red gummies
- Pink or red Jelly Beans
I was so into creating my board, I forgot to take pictures along the way, but I wanted to share a few easy steps!
1. Select equal parts sweet and savory
For this snacker, I chose equal parts sweet and savory to create a balance. I selected a wheel of brie, cheddar, cranberry crackers and normal salami. For my sweets, I selected chocolate covered pretzel rods, strawberries, sea salt dark chocolate, and some gummies from Sugarfina.
2. Include a variety of shapes, sizes, heights and colors
Ever feel like your cheese board looks bland or boring? It all boils down to color, shapes and sizes! For a fun shape, I cut the wheel of brie into a heart, then sliced the remaining pieces into bite sized nibbles. The large pretzel rods added some height, the strawberries some vibrancy, and then I added some pink Sugarfina candies to tie in the Valentine’s day theme.
3. Place one “type” of item on your board at a time and create balance
When all the cheese is in one corner, the crackers in another, and the sweets stuck together, it doesn’t have a curated feel. In order to create balance, I first placed all my cheeses so they were spread out evenly on the board. I then layered my fruit and my sweets. It made a nice balance, things were peppered in multiple places and it looked interesting!
4. Add some flowers and sprinkle some color!
Valentine’s Day wouldn’t be complete without flowers, right?! I added two stems of flowers for texture and to feel personal. I love when cheese or snack boards sprinkle pomegranate seeds, pine nuts or other little nibblers across as a finishing touch. For a Valentine’s Day version, I chose pink jelly beans! Totally tied it all in.
I love the bright, cheerful table linens – they exude joy! And the food…that Brie…is the cutest cheese I’ve ever seen ❤️
Happy Valentines Day, beautiful platter 💕
