Sweater season is here and the struggle is real to find knits that are both cozy and figure friendly. Sweaters for me either work or they don’t, with zero in-between. Being a curvy woman, sweaters have the ability to add bulk to unwanted areas, something I try and avoid when possible. So, when I come across a well-made sweater that creates an accurate representation of my size, I say yes without hesitation. Truth be told, it is harder for us extended-size women to shop, we have less resources and fewer quality brands, so when we find something that works, we should go for it! When shopping in extended-sizes, quality investment pieces are worth it. What used to be shelves of dozens of pilling sweaters has turned into one shelf of well-loved pieces I use year after year. In fact, the sweater I am talking about I purchased in 2017, J. Crew still makes it and it is still a best-seller!
Cable crewneck sweater in everyday cashmere: sizes xxs-3x, $168.
This is hands-down my favorite sweater, ever. I wear this classic number weekly and, trust me when I say, it is worth the investment. The cashmere is very soft, but also durable, and I find that it rarely pills. If it does pill, I take a Conair sweater razor to the area and problem solved. I have worn this sweater more than any item I own, so I decided to invest in a black one, too. The arms easily roll for a casual look and it can be tucked into skirts and pants, it is so versatile. The arms are actually proportionate to the body! This is an extended-size woe of mine, I feel like the arms of most pieces in my size are intended for a giant. I actually feel confident, polished and comfortable. Runs true to size.
J.Crew is a brand that I have really grown to trust. They have always been size-inclusive, just not to the extent they are today. You’ll be seeing a lot of me in this cult classic brand, and for good reason! They make affordable, quality pieces and, while their cuts might not work for everyone, they understand extended size proportions. In short, I would recommend these two sweaters to everyone, everyday.
I just stumbled over this blog and I LOVE it. You both have such a great, classic and simple style and really inspire me to raid my closet and create new looks with the basics I have. Great work!
