May is one of the most beautiful months, but it’s also a strange one temperature-wise. I find that during May, I really bring things back to basics keeping my outfits simple and easy. Layering is my best friend this time of year, and while I love summer weight sweaters, as we come out of those chilly months I look for ways to layer that feel light and fresh. I absolutely love layering a striped tee over a button down or vica versa! I wanted to chat about these staples because, chances are, you already have them in your closet. If not, I’ve got you covered! In my January capsule wardrobe, I had a white button down, striped tee, and a great pair of medium wash jeans included. I really wear these pieces year round, but lean into them more come late Spring to Summer.
A GREAT STRIPED LONG SLEEVE TEE
I lean into my stripes far more from Spring to Fall than I do in the Winter, but I don’t rule them out completely. Something about stripes just feel so fresh for when those warmer days roll around, and a fantastic, polished tee is a closet must for me. I think I wear mine 3 times a week at least, maybe more! A striped tee can be worn on it’s own, over a button up or chambray shirt, or as a base layer with a cardigan, jean jacket, blazer or under a shirt. They look great with jeans, tucked into skirts, and I find that stripes are easy to mix with other patterns – they are a neutral to me!
My tee can be found here, it comes up to xxl which is what I wear.
My other favorite which deserves a size-inclusive honorable mention is from J.crew.
A CLASSIC WHITE BUTTON UP SHIRT
I feel like I don’t really need to dive into this one too much, because it’s such a classic. A simple white button up is a wardrobe hero for me, there is no situation too casual or too professional where these don’t work. I love to wear mine untucked over jeans, tucked in for a polished feel, over a tee, under a tee, as a jacket over a dress, or tied at the waist. The list truly goes on! Also the best to wear over leggings or joggers, too. My white button up can be found here, I get a size 18 and fits perfectly. If you have a particularly long torso, opt for Foxcroft.
My shirt can be found here, I got my normal 18 and it fit well.

A SIMPLE PAIR OF MEDIUM WASH CROPPED DENIM
Sometimes, jeans can get breezed over in your closet when you’re curvy. If you have a few pairs that work and that you like, it can be easy to refresh other areas of your wardrobe first. I was guilty of this for so. long. I get my jeans from two places: Talbots and J.Crew (Loft used to be on the list, but not as much these days). These jeans are fantastic, and the fit in the waist and hips are great. There’s something about a little crop in your jeans this time of year that make them feel extra chic and warm weather friendly.
A similar pair of my jeans can be found here, I wear the size 34.
