I took these photos a few weeks ago, but since then I’ve been getting some questions about these jeans, so I thought I would do a little review! It’s no secret that I simply love Talbots denim. I can count on one hand the denim retailers that truly work for me (Talbots, J.Crew, Universal Standard, Madewell). Being pregnant, jeans have become a bit of a struggle, but for now I’ve been sizing up one or two sizes and testing out maternity jeans for the bump! Pregnant or not, I’ve loved Talbots Modern Ankle Denim. While I won’t be able to wear them much longer even with sizing up, I will certainly miss them dearly. So, I wanted to provide some information on these jeans since I think the style is versatile, current, and most of all, curve friendly!
Of all the Talbots denim styles, the Modern Ankle has been my favorite since I first tried them a few years ago. They’re the perfect straight leg style that is distant enough from a skinny jean without becoming a full-on wide leg. A perfect right in the middle kind of silhouette. This style comes in a variety of washes, sizes, and lengths. Depending on the wash, they can come in a more stretchy type of denim or a true stiffer jean feeling (never uncomfortable though). The style I’m wearing here is a true denim material but has some give, they’re breathable and most of all, easy to wear.
When it comes to fit, I would say the Modern Ankle style runs true to size (as I mentioned I am sizing up for pregnancy), so I would go with your standard pant or denim size here. As noted above, if it’s a wash that’s stretchy, you may end up needing to size down, but nine times out of ten when it comes to this style, grab your normal size! They are fitted throughout the hips and thighs, while becoming a more relaxed yet tailored fit in the calves. The thing I love most about these, they do not become baggy in the knees! It’s a plus-size straight leg denim miracle lol.
I also love where they hit on the ankle, they’re not too cropped but long enough to wear in the Fall and Winter. Sometimes Talbots offers Curvy fit in their denim, which provides more room in the hips and knees, but a more fitted waist. While I do get curvy fit most places, I find that regular fit does the trick here! Overall, if you’re looking for a current pair of jeans that still feel classic without compromising comfort, look no further than Talbots Modern Ankle. I really do love these jeans!
I ordered a pair of Talbots jeans based on your excellent review. Waiting for them to arrive at my doorstep!
