If you know me, you know that I love Talbots’ denim. With my figure, I have tried countless brands and countless styles, and nothing compares to my tried and true favorites from Talbots! I have a very select roster of brands whose denim I wear, and Talbots is at the top of that list. They have such a diverse denim library, with so many styles to choose from across all size ranges, and various fits within those ranges like curvy or regular.
On a daily basis, I’m asked about my favorite denim. I would say it might just be the question I am asked the most. It can be a challenging one to answer, because there are so many styles that I love for different reasons. But, I know that I can wholeheartedly recommend Talbots denim no matter anyone’s criteria. To make things a bit easier, I thought that I would put together a guide on my favorite denim from them!
Talbots has taken so many things into consideration when building out their size ranges, especially when it comes to their denim. They have regular, petite, plus petite and plus. Within those ranges, you can opt for a curvy fit if your waist is proportionately smaller than your hips, or go with regular for a more standard fit. The other thing I love is that they offer so many washes for their styles. Every style that I am covering below usually comes in a variety of indigo washes and white as well. So here we go, my four favorite denim styles from Talbots, how they fit and why I love them!
Here we go…
The Crop Flare
Available in: regular, plus, petite, plus petite
Washes: White and Blue
Runs: True to size, has stretch
I first tried the crop flare style earlier this year on a whim. I was a bit intimidated by the words crop and flare, but these have ended up being one of my favorite styles of all time. The crop flare is a very current style that will allow you to feel both on-trend and classic at the same time. The flare is just wide enough that it differentiates itself from a straight leg, but it’s not too dramatic that you feel like they would be out of style soon, because this pair is truly timeless. The fit here is really great. The rise hits right at the waist and there is room in the hips to feel comfortable. The material has some stretch to it, so I would say if you are in-between to size down if you traditionally do that in denim that has give to it. Otherwise, I would get your normal size here.
The Modern Ankle
Available in: regular, plus, petite, plus petite
Washes: White and Blue
Runs: True to size, if in-between size down
My favorite denim style ever. Period. The modern ankle style is probably the most curve-friendly pair of non-skinny jeans that I’ve found. I have this particular style in white and several of the blue washes. Whenever I wear them, I am always asked about them because they have a way of just working with my body type so well. These are the perfect jeans for anyone who loves how skinny jeans look and feel, but want to try a style that is more relaxed. You still look incredibly polished in these, no matter how you wear them. They are high waisted (which we love) and are fitted throughout the hips and thighs, with a nice, relaxed straight leg. The fit is incredible proportion wise (I even wrote a blog post just on these jeans). The material here has stretch, but it can vary depending on the wash. I would say these run true to size, but if you are in-between sizes to size down in the washes with stretch like the white style.
The Jegging
Available in: regular, plus, petite, plus petite
Washes: White and Blue
Runs: Mostly true to size, has significant stretch, if in-between size down
All hail the jegging! I would really consider these more of a standard skinny jean than a true jegging as they feel like denim, they have pockets, zippers and a button closure. Where they feel more like a jegging to me is in how soft the denim feels and how they have a significant amount of stretch. Aside from the modern ankle, this is my most worn style of denim. The white jegging is something you can find me in any day of the week, whether out to dinner with a top, or casually styled with a t-shirt. I love the blue washes because they are great for everyday, but feel so incredibly comfortable. The style and material is designed to contour and smooth, so when you put them on, you always feel great. These hit just above the hips, for me right at my navel, The fit is very smooth. The curvy style has more room in the knees and hips, so I opt for the regular fit. Because of the nature of the jegging material, these do stretch out as you wear them, so if you are in-between I would size down. When I wear my normal size, the stretch doesn’t prevent me from looking polished at all.
The Slim Ankle Jean
Available in: regular, plus, petite, plus petite
Washes: White and Blue
Runs: True to size, has stretch
My latest denim love affair has been with the slim ankle jean! This style is so classic, you truly cannot go wrong. This style is somewhere in-between the skinny jean jegging style and the modern ankle. It has the length of the jegging but more of that slim ankle you find in the modern crop. Your ankles do not feel constricted, but if you prefer how skinny jeans flatter your figure and want something a little more traditional, these are the perfect pair. I also have this style in both blue and white washes, but the blue and indigo washes are my favorite here. These sit right above the waist and are so comfortable, I always feel confident when I put them on. Since we are nearing the end of summer, this is a fantastic style to have in darker washes as we head into Fall. Slim ankle styles can be challenging with curves, but they seem to have mastered it in this cut, I find myself reaching for these all the time. This style runs true to size, but have a little stretch as a lot of Talbots denim does. I would get your normal size here and know that they give a little bit with wear.
Thank you Talbots for partnering on this post!
I agree with you regarding the Talbots jeans. I have a few pairs of the demin color range and I also have one white and one light mint green. (SO wish they did more colors).
Due to a health issue can not wear jeggings and or the slim ankle style. I usually like the straight jean and either the ankle or the regular length.
In the past I have worn Ruff Hewn–but good luck in finding them and I have also worn some style of Lee.
Talbots now seems to be the one that I gravitate towards for comfort and style.
You look great in all these. Do you mind me asking what size you wear? If not I understand totally 💯😬.
