Hi guys! Happy hump day. I took a look at my feet the other day and realized how much I’ve been wearing sneakers over sandals this summer. Partially due to the fact I haven’t had a pedicure since pre-COVID. But, mainly because I like the comfort aspect of sneakers far more than I do sandals! A sneaker can be just as cute and versatile as a sandal or ballet flat. As woman with a foot that is somewhere in-between regular and wide, sneakers tend to lend a little more width than your average shoe, too. Supergas are great casual sneakers for wider feet, and I have tried a lot of sneakers over the years! But, Superga really takes the cake. They go with literally everything!
To be extra clear, Superga sneakers do not come in proper wide widths. BUT, I can confidently say that they are a wider sneaker than most casual sneakers that more wide-width-foot people (is that even a word?!) should consider! That’s why I’m writing this post. Back when I went to the Superga store in SoHo, they advised me to try my regular size and a half size down, as they can run big. But, my regular size did the trick and work on my wider foot! When it comes to the classic Cotu, if you have a wider width foot, I would recommend your normal size. If you have a narrow foot, you’ll likely need to tighten the laces a decent amount or size down a half size (I’d try/order both and go with whatever works).
As for comfort and breaking in Supergas, they take a few weeks of consistent wear to really get the canvas pliable. I didn’t blister in them, however. They are not a squishy, athletic sneaker type of comfort. But, rather a sturdy, supportive kind of comfort. Wider width feet tend to hurt more in shoes as the hours pass, because shoes do not fit as properly if they are not a true wide. But with these, I can walk all day in them my feet will not hurt and they will remain comfortable. They are a casual, comfy sneaker not a running shoe, so keep that in mind comfort-wise. They also hold up really well! Being that they are a solid canvas, they are very easy to clean. I spot treat them with washing detergent.
I find myself wearing these all. the. time. They are so versatile, I wear them with dresses, jeans, shorts, as my commuter sneakers, with skirts and loungewear. Because they go with so much, the price point is also very reasonable for the cost per wear. I had my previous pair for 5-6 years before I replaced them. I don’t see myself replacing my current pair any time soon! Maybe just adding in another color way (or two lol). Basically, if I were to suggest a casual sneaker, Superga Cotu would be the one!

Cute! I love Supergas, have had a pair for years. I continue to wear them even though one of our naughty puppies at the time chewed the back heel!!
Great post, Elsa! I agree with your evaluation! I love my Supergas – my original pair is probably 5 years old and the same color as pictured. I used to think low-top sneakers made my feet look like boats and these changed that. I love how they look with shorts (this can be especially tricky), jeans, and skirts/dresses.
I watched Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat on Netflix during the beginning of quarantine and by the end of the series, I was compelled to buy better parm, and a pair of red Supergas :). The red pair has totally boosted my mood when I wear them. No regrets!
Sorry, but these beautiful sneakers DO NOT FIT WIDE FEET. I have D-width to 2E-width female feet, depending on the brand/style, and these shoes are way, way, waaaaay too narrow for my feet. (Check out my review on Zappos for the 2750 Classic Cotu to see a photo of my wide foot next to these super narrow shoes.)
I decided to give these a try based on this article, but now that I’ve tried on a pair, I can’t help but wonder if Elsa doesn’t have truly wide feet after all. I can’t imagine even a D-width would be comfortable in these, much less my wide 2E feet. Even the length felt too short due to the way the toe box sloped inward (doesn’t anyone at these shoe companies actually LOOK at normal human feet??? Feet are NOT shaped like cones!) I am so sad to have to send back the gorgeous red pair of Classic Cotu’s I ordered. I can barely even get my feet in them, they’re so narrow.
So sorry they didn’t work for you! I have medium to wide feet and usually buy wide width shoes or have to size up, these just happen to work for me. I hear you and I apologize.
