Back home in Morristown. Some new sconce shades that will be going up soon!
SUNDAY CHAT
We are back home in New Jersey. It’s a bittersweet feeling, because I’m so excited to see my family and friends, be in our home, and visit our neighborhood favorites. But, I’m sad to be leaving, it was such a special time, and one that I’m so grateful for. It was a privilege to be able to safely stay with family during these times, one that not everyone has, and that was not lost on us one bit. We are vaccinated, and so are our families and most of our close friends, so I’ll get to see some people who I haven’t been able to in over a year, which has me feeling all the feels! I had J&J, I’m just about 3 weeks post-shot and doing great. Right after the shot, I felt fine but had a standard symptomatic response days 2 and 3 after the injection, a little rough but all worth it in my opinion! I’m returning home with so many emotions and even some new outlooks on lifestyle and living.
Having been in Florida for just about 4 months, my time kind of recalibrated my outlook on clutter and things. Don’t get me wrong, I still had A LOT of stuff with me there over those 105 days! But, it showed me that I really don’t need a lot of the excess clutter that I hold on to “just in case” around the house. I love to collect things, lived in a collected feeling home, and my design aesthetic is somewhere in-between light and airy meets grandmillenial maximalist. So, I’m ready to do a (late) Spring cleaning and donate things while making sure that I don’t get rid of anything that we love, has value or meaning, or that would compromise my design aesthetic and who I am. Prime example of something that sparks joy and serves a purpose, my new sconce shades! I love them, they reflect my style, and they are here for a reason. I worked with Sort and Sweet to organize my closet and that was something that actually changed my mindset with regards to my clothing and closet. I hope to apply those same tactics to our living room, kitchen, office and laundry room, too. Not all in one fell swoop! These things can take time.
It’s no secret I absolutely love coffee (hello, name of this series!), and my in-laws have the best coffee maker. I won’t be getting the same one because I need something compact-ish, but I think I may upgrade my little coffee situation at home, since I’ll be working remotely through the end of Summer. Right now, I’m working with your standard Keurig which is so practical for our household since Andrew cut out coffee a few years ago. I have a reusable pod, but am eager for something a little more artisanal. We’ll see, if you have any reasonable recommendations, let me know!
Now, let’s get to some Sunday shopping, reading and watching.
SUNDAY SHOPPING
A lot of gems in here! Most of the new arrivals from the last wave are now marked down, plenty of which are perfect for Spring and Summer.
$25 off Talbots Pants and Jeans
You know my favorite destination for curve-friendly denim is Talbots! I recently wrote this blog post on my favorite straight leg white denim (I also have two or three posts on their white skinny jeans). The sale ends Sunday at midnight!
Tuckernuck up to XXXL New Arrivals
Tuckernuck has so many cute new arrivals under their in-house collection. Their in-house collection usually goes up to xxxl and always xxl. I spy a few very cute blouses, and classic collared shirt dresses for warmer days ahead.
English Aesthetic Period Inspired Lampshades
I recently got a pair of brass sconces that will flank an abstract oil painting in our home. It was one of the first pieces Andrew and I got together from Millea Bros., a fantastic auction house where I worked and loved it. I wanted to flank it with some traditional sconces and patterned shades, and found these on Etsy. Carbon Velvet has a lot of William Morris type textiles and patterns, which I think can be a breath of fresh air in a sea of woodblock print shades (which I also have lol)!
A few things in my cart:
SUNDAY READING AND WATCHING
Six Easy Ways to Make Your Home More Sustainable
Let me be the first to say I don’t inherently have a green thumb. I’m actively working on making changes to be more sustainable, in my life and at home. If I can make simple changes that don’t impact me, but impact our planet in positive ways, why wouldn’t I?! I found this quick read really helpful.
An Explosive Netflix Documentary About the Isabella Stewart Gardner Heist
If you aren’t familiar with ArtNet, you should be! The Isabella Stewart Gardner Heist is very buzzworthy right now, and for good reason. In grad school, I studied this museum (and the heist) really closely and honestly, my jaw drops the same way today as it did when I was first learning about it. This article gives a rundown on what the heist is, the show, and the people who may have done it. There are some spoilers!
32 Can’t Miss Beach Reads of 2021
For me, a great beach read is an eerie psychological thriller or a murder mystery. But, I realize that is not the case for everyone! I’ve been getting more into traditional “beach reads” over the last year, and found this list of reads for 2021 to be a great resource. I have added quite a few to my list already!
Lily Dierkes Breathes New Life into a Nashville Home
Calling all grandmillenials or home decor enthusiasts! Lily Dierkes is an interior designer who has worked under some pretty notable people. This home is absolutely stunning and makes my grandmillenial loving heart sing. The color palette is more subdued than what we traditionally think of when we think grandmillenial, so I think no matter what your decor taste is you can appreciate it. It’s absolutely stunning and so fun to get lost in a dream house!
Rory Gilmore Rainy Day Outfits
If you need a pick me up or a good smile, Kelly shared her girls in matching Rory Gilmore-inspired rainy day outfits. I simply CAN’T! The outfits are so cute, but more importantly the girls together will just make you smile. My main question is, do these looks come in adult sizes?!
I love my Chemex coffee maker, which is about $40 at C&B. I get the special filters from either Amazon or C&B. I use the Capresso Infinity grinder. My espresso machine is the Breville Bambino plus, which I bought on the recommendation of Carly. Highly recommend all of the above! GeorgeHowellCoffee.com has brew guides for all sizes of the Chemex as well as other coffee makers.
