Over the last few weeks I’ve been talking about how my closet has been, for a lack of better words, pretty disorganized! Ironically, I keep things like my job, blog, calendar etc., incredibly tidy and organized; but, when it comes to clothing, I have been at a loss. I am not embarrassed to admit that I have struggled with laundry and my closet, I think it is pretty normal! Yet, as normal as it may be, closet disorganization and laundry chaos cause me a lot of stress. Quarantine had amplified this! In areas like my job, our kitchen and living area, and on Simply Elsa, the level of organization I implement relieves a lot of anxiety and makes things flow smoothly. We’re going to be indoors a lot more in the next month or so, and I really want all areas of my space organized, and to stay organized. I recognize that I just needed a little help! That’s totally okay.

Here are some steps I am taking to get my closet and clothing organized this Fall. I am…
Looking back at what hasn’t worked
I have tried a lot of things on my own in the past, and many of the closet organization tactics I created myself have not worked. I realize that it is time to change things up and learn long-term skills, try something new, and explore different ways to keep my closet tidy. I think reassessing my closet to be in line with routine and lifestyle, and what clothes are necessary for it, will be really helpful. I am not one to get super attached to things like clothing. But, I am one to say “well, I wear that about once a year and I have had it for four, so I might need it.” It’s time I take a hard look at my closet, keep what is realistic, practical and special.
Attending a free organization webinar
I have been sharing on Instagram that I am attending a free online organization webinar hosted by Sort and Sweet! I am really excited because I think it will be a great way to kick things off, learn some organization 101, and get in the right mindset. They are sharing some of their secrets and I think it will be like a master class of organizing! It is 90 minutes and the Sort and Sweet teams have worked with some really impressive names, so you know they have their stuff together. The webinar is on the evening of the 28th and you can sign up here
Embracing a “less is more-type” mentality and making donations
I say “less is more-type” because I think the less is more mentality can be tricky! I fall somewhere in the middle. I think accepting where I fall in terms of having clutter and being a minimalist will be key in finding tools that will actually work for me. I want to embrace aspects of this mentality, because I think when I have too much clutter, I get overwhelmed. I fully agree that less things, and only things you love, do bring more joy. But, if you are someone who simply thrives with more or has attachment to things, or you are like me and just have more “stuff”, there is no shame in that. I think part of the problem is that the last time I really cleaned out my closet was almost three years ago! I plan to make donations of all the things I say goodbye to, in the hopes someone who needs them can get good use out of them. It’s about a balance and finding what volume of items and clothing works for me to maintain order and serenity.
Seeking professional organization services
I think that professional organization assistance will allow me to truly learn new skills and see things from a different perspective. I will have some exciting news to share soon about a team I am partnering with! I cannot wait to share the tangible and concrete steps I have taken with the help of this fabulous team of women. Stay tuned, more to come here!
Until then, I hope to see some of you at the webinar and, remember, it is okay if your closet is not perfectly organized. No one is perfect and I know my closet was not either!
Awesome!! I could really gain some tips from this webinar. Looking forward to it- I just signed up!
