I have a love-hate relationship with Valentine’s Day. As much as I hate cheesy romance, I love this cute and whimsical holiday that is all about one of my favorite color combos- RED and PINK! I find it so fun to add simple touches around the house that celebrate this little holiday many of us tend to overlook. I outfitted our home for the month of February and Valentine’s day for just about $75. All it took was one morning with HGTV on in the background and a cup of coffee (my bliss). What I do every year is pretty much the same: flowers, ribbon, candies, and paper napkins. I do not go crazy! I usually add little pockets of decor in open areas and create a vignette in the main shared space. For us that’s our coffee table, for others maybe their kitchen table or bar cart! Here’s what I did:
1. Flowers!
Roses and carnations are available this time of year, roses a bit more expensive, but one dozen stems of either should do the trick! I remove the lids from my ginger jars around the apartment and snip a few flowers for each. Adding these little pockets of blooms add nice pops of color and feels romantic, but in a happy, cheerful, low-key kind of way.
2. Ribbon!
If there is a ginger jar, foo dog, or miscellaneous vase, you better believe a ribbon will be going around it! It is such an inexpensive and effective way to paint your home with the color palette of any given holiday. I found this adorable red and pink gingham ribbon on Etsy. I tied it around my ginger jars and placed one on my kitchen table and one on our coffee table.
3. Candies!
Before I dive in, if you have kids or pets and cannot utilize candies, pom-poms that are not a hazard from Amazon or Michael’s are just as darling in dishes! Anyway, I love to use bright candies and sprinkle them in cute little pieces around the house. It’s a fun treat and makes for inexpensive and colorful decor.
4. Paper napkins!
I love paper napkins (many companies are now more eco-friendly, using better dyes and elements, including Caspari). I think paper napkins always come in handy and are a classic coffee table touch. They can tell a seasonal or holiday story and are practical to boot. I chose a pink and red monogram option from Etsy! How cute right?!
That’s all folks, so easy! I hope this inspires you to add some cheerful elements around your home for Valentine’s Day. Remember to always tell those important to you that you love them, that is really what it is all about!
SO CUTE!! I always forget to decorate for Valentine’s day…but I am going to start because the colors are so fun, and love how you can make it easy and festive! And by decorating a little bit, It will also help to lessen the blow that Christmas is over, ahah! 🙂
