Can you believe it’s MARCH? There are only 19 days until the official first day of Spring and we are here 👏 for 👏 it 👏. We don’t know about you, but for us this time of year can be a challenge. Mentally we’re feeling the winter blues and are ready to soak in some warmth, have more days outside than in, and… gasp… wear less layers! Yes, friends, we are officially ready to ditch our cozy sweaters for crisp cotton and pretty prints.
Funny enough, one thing that remains a constant in our wardrobes throughout every season is white denim. Winter, spring, summer and fall – in our minds, white denim can do it all! And while we are never without a favorite pair, finding the right pair can definitely be a challenge, no matter your style, size or shape. To be honest, we’ve both found that most pairs of white denim are either too tight, too see through or totally lose their shape with wear, leaving us feeling like Goldilocks before she had her ah-ha moment.
But, never fear – after some exhaustive research and many a try-on, we’ve found a couple of pairs that are just right!
NORA’S JEANS: I have such a love-hate relationship with white denim! I love wearing it, but hate finding it. I have long legs and a long torso (my belly button is very high) so finding white denim that is high rise, cropped but not mid-calf, fitted but not tight, structured but not stiff and not the least bit see through can feel like a full time job! After striking out at all of my go-to denim brands (J.Crew, Madewell, Everlane, J.Brand) for several seasons, I finally found this pair last year (on sale for under $100 here – these and these are similar!) and it is my absolute favorite (runs tts). High rise, cropped leg, fitted in all the right places with just the right amount of stretch and structure? Yes please!
To be honest, I was worried that the kick flare would be too trendy looking, but I was so tired of skinny jeans that looked painted on that I figured I had nothing to lose. Turns out, these beauties are just as versatile as my former skinnies and a lot more fun to wear!
ELSA’S JEANS: I have searched high and low, near and far, and what feels like to the ends of the earth, to find the best size-inclusive white denim. Ultimately, I have found TWO. You heard me, TWO. But, the holy grail of size-inclusive white denim is this pair of white “jeggings” right here. They are not a Spanx-like jegging “legging” that is super tight, but rather a slim cut, skinny jean with stretch. The ankles are spacious and not glued to your skin. They come in regular, plus, petite, and curvy fits. I personally wear the plus curvy and have never felt better in white jeans. The quality is fantastic for the price point, I usually purchase two at once because I find it tends to sell out quickly (people are on to it!).
I find a big problem with white jeans lies in their opacity. My other favorite pair solves this problem. Some are see through, which can show more of our legs than we are comfortable with. While no white denim is like a brick wall, this pair is relatively opaque and non-translucent (size up)! I feel comfortable all around. I love where they sit on my hips (right near my naval) and how the curvy style is really designed for my body. They also hold up very well, I have had this pair for over a year and the wear is minimal and I wash them all the time!
NORA’S OUTFIT: We look these pictures in Florida, but I love that this outfit could just as easily be paired with black sock booties, a button down and a black blazer or neutral boots and a cream sweater for northern winters. I have this boatneck tee in black, white and red stripe – it’s the perfect weight for year round wear and is fitted enough to be worn alone but loose enough to be layered (I’ve worn a button down underneath, too!). I find it runs TTS – I’m wearing a small. This one is similar and has more color ways!
I accessorized my look with easy, everyday staples: my favorite black slides (old, similar here) and minimalist gold jewelry. As I’ve gotten older, my taste in jewelry has shifted. I’m drawn to more simplistic pieces that I can wear more frequently. That’s not to say they need to be pricey – my pendant necklace is a favorite and under $75! I never take off my diamond choker (similar here and here) or gold studs (similar), and usually add these mini hoops (I love these and these, too).
ELSA’S OUTFIT: These Breton tee’s are the absolute best. I have lived in them for years (since high school), and their size range has allowed me to stay with them throughout the evolution of my body. Boden recently expanded their sizes, but please be sure to double check the measurements, as they have shifted slightly, I find their 20 is really like a US 18. But the cotton is substantial, breathable, soft and dreamy. It also comes in the cutest color combinations with a variety of sleeve lengths. I have yet to find one that lives up to this style.
I topped off this look with my favorite rattan accessories! These slides are old, but I linked some similar styles. These are the best spring accessories because they transition into summer so well. Rattan tells a seasonal story through texture and material vs. color, which is great for spring when you aren’t quite ready to whip out your hot pink baubles yet. The earrings are lightweight for their size and go with literally everything! Very comfortable, too.
