Top of Mind: I have some health issues and things I am working through at the moment (not to worry, everything is just fine). But I am learning that it is okay to prioritize myself, even if it means a hard conversation with a friend or going out on a limb to ask a favor. I need to really take care of myself now, especially if we hope to have a family in the next couple of years. It is okay to help yourself and prioritize and yourself!
What I’m reading: I started Long Bright River and it is really good so far. I also just finished Such a Fun Age and Meg and Jo, but I will cover those in my next On My Bookshelf. Up Next: Elsey Come Home and Searching for Silvie Lee .
What I read: January was a good month for me, a lot of wins.
Evvie Drake Starts Over (5/5): I absolutely adored this book. It is deeply heartfelt yet lighthearted at the same time. The main character, Evvie, is a recent widow and a new man walks into her life. There is passion, hardship, soul searching, starting over, and all that is in between. It is a really breezy, girly kind of book, but one that is sophisticated and won’t make you cringe, it’s a sweet story with relatable undertones that I found refreshing within this genre.
The Silent Patient (5/5): WOW. You guys. I love a good thriller. The writing in this book is just as outstanding as the plot itself, which is so unique and taps into a refined territory thrillers can sometimes skip. It is the perfect balance of deep psychoanalysis and twisted thriller storytelling. There is a major plot twist at the end, it was so major that I actually had to re-read the last few chapters over because I needed to take it all in again. Hands down, the best thriller I have read in years.
The Bookish Life of Nina Hill (4/5): I really enjoyed this book. Nina Hill is an only child, a bookworm, and finds her life flipped upside down with some news that would rock anyone’s world. I loved this book because it really takes you into Nina’s life and emotions, but it is funny. It is a refreshing kind of comedy that was kind of quirky at times, but also very endearing and unexpected at others. It is a fun and quick read for any bookworm or anyone who appreciates a good laugh.
