It’s been a while since I wrote a life lately post! As you can imagine, life lately looks a little differently compared to previous Septembers. We’re busy but it’s an exciting type of busy that truly brings such a feeling of gratitude and contentment. This Summer was filled with core memories, my best friend got married in Colorado and I was her co-maid-of-honor, two precious babies were born in the Massey family, and we celebrated this pregnancy as it entered the second trimester continuing to thrive. While this Summer was very special, I cannot wait to officially head into Fall. Generally speaking, I feel more like myself when it gets a little cooler outside and life seems to slow down a bit. While my day-to-day is certainly busier from Fall to Spring, I find that in the Summer I spend less time at home and more time being out and about; so, this homebody is ready for the upcoming season. For us, this Fall is all about soaking up this time of year as a family of two before we head into the final stretch of baby prep during the holidays.
(tw: this paragraph includes discussion on pregnancy, baby shower etc. – if you are struggling, I see you.)
When it comes to life being pregnant, I just feel so grateful to have a healthy pregnancy (which there are many different experiences and forms of). Pregnancy is certainly not easy, however it’s a true privilege to be walking through this without complications and with both personal and healthcare support around me. In the harder moments, in the joyful moments, I feel so fortunate for the experience that we continue to have. I felt her kick around week 21 and it was the most surreal and meaningful thing! Not to sound cheesy, but for me this pregnancy has been a beautiful time. I’ve been feeling great and loving this stage of preparing for her arrival in just about four short months. My baby shower is mid-November, and even though we’ve had the date slated since the end of July, it feels like I woke up one day and it was right around the corner! So, I’ve been trying to clean out and prepare our home as a whole, specifically the nursery, in anticipation of baby things beginning to arrive. It’s all so new and so exciting!
I’m thinking of making a date night bucket list of places we’d love to try out. Morristown is an ever-growing little “city” and there are a bunch of new restaurants and things to explore in downtown. It’s been awesome to see all the changes in town over the years, we bought our apartment in September of 2015 (then leased it out to tenants for two years in 2017 when we needed to briefly live in the city, knowing we would return), and in the 7-ish years we’ve been here, the town just keeps growing. It’s definitely a place that works in many different stages of life, when we were younger and would go out to bars with friends on a Friday night it was a blast. Now, we get together with friends testing out the new menus or seeing a show at the performing arts center. If you’re local, here are a few places on our list to try out: Agricola, 1776 on The Green, and the new sweet treat spot called Apricot! I also hope to visit the Morris Museum more in the next few months, they always have interesting things going on there. All that being said, as we head into cold season, our plan is to minimize social plans and events simply to mitigate risk exposure to germs with the pregnancy, which I will continue to do come the holidays.
What are some of your best tips for cleaning out your home and prepping for a new stage of life? It’s all so thrilling and thankful to have this supportive community to learn from and connect with.
I love your exploration of the new additions to your home base of Morristown. Morris Museum will be especially fun once your baby gets to the age where she can explore their fabulous and exciting children’s interactive exhibits.
So lovely to hear. I did a Kondo Marie clean out which was beneficial as over the years, we have accumulated kid things. Love the idea of dates before the big day as the first three months you kind of skip those. Also naps, naps are awesome. A Dutch “baby box” / spare crib / pack n play in the living room is pretty awesome for the living room. It’s a sweet time. I think you’re approaching it perfectly. I’m so happy for you.
