Have you ever had that problem where you need to size up in jeans, so that they fit throughout your hips and thighs? But, you’re left with that awkward gap or space in the back of your waistline? As if you could pinch your jeans at the waist, and then they would be right? Then curvy fit denim is for you! Curvy is not necessarily synonymous with plus-size, it just means your proportions are larger in your hips, bum and thighs and smaller in your waist. This applies to all bodies and all sizes, it is really more about shape!
If you find yourself sizing up in jeans and they fit well in your hips and legs, then they aren’t quite right in the waist, you likely need a curvy fit. Curvy fit means no more sizing up. You can get your normal size and the proportions are cut to be more hourglass. If you find that you have a more straight mid-section which carries through your hips, it’s likely that curvy fit is not for you. Over the years, J.Crew has done a great job in expanding their sizes, as well as introducing multiple fits and inseams in their denim. When they introduced their curvy fit a few years ago, I tried it and never looked back!
So, you might notice I wear this specific pair of denim all the time! I love them. I am wearing a 34 and I’m a true 16w or 18 regular. In the curvy fit, I get my normal size. But in their non-curvy fits, I tend to need to size up. The high-waist creates such a flattering silhouette in my mid-section. The comfort level is pretty unreal, too. They have a bit of stretch to them, but they hold their elasticity well for a couple wears before needing a wash. The straight leg is somewhat tapered, so, you don’t get that awkward baggy oversized knee or calf area, which can happen in extended sizes.
They are not a skinny jean, but not quite a mom jean. The perfect in-between! I also want to note I did not need to hem the length! I am 5’6” for reference. The warm surf wash is also such a nice hue that transitions well between all seasons. It’s a nice mid-rinse that pairs well with cool and warm weather colors. I also love the curvy fit classic toothpick in dryden wash. It is a skinny style, but has a very similar fit in the hips, thighs and bum. However, I did need to hem this pair.
I cannot stress enough that every pair of J.Crew curvy fit jeans just feel like were made for my body type. There are a few other denim brands that I swear by, too, but the J.Crew Curvy fit is in my top two. I love this pair, and if you struggle with the awkward waist and fit through the hips, give them a shot!
LOVE IT. KEEP IT COMMING.
