Skirt (xl – regular and plus), sweater (xl – regular and plus), earrings, similar shoes, similar bag
Lady in red! I think red has to be one of my favorite colors on just about everyone. This blog post is also unintentionally yet serendipitously launching following the release of Taylor’s version of red, which I am still slightly lost over by the way. I blame my age. But anyways, monochrome looks are some of the chicest and simplest ways to go when it comes to getting dressed, especially for the holidays. J.Crew has been making this slip skirt for a few years now and it is probably one of my most loved pieces in my closet. I love it so much that this year I decided to acquire it in a bold yet sophisticated red, and I couldn’t be happier.
I’m all about making selective and intentional choices when it comes to clothing, if I can’t wear it a few ways, chances are I will walk away from the piece. This slip skirt is one that I wear weekly, it can be dressed up or down and I’ve styled it a handful of ways over on my TikTok. So, when I saw this business-in-the-front party-in-the-back sweater from Anthropologie, I knew they would make the perfect monochrome pair for the look I wanted to create this holiday. Separately they’re amazing and together they’re the perfect team. For the holidays, sticking to either a red, green, black or metallic/jewel tone color palette will really send the holiday message without having to wear plaid or sequins (both of which I love let’s be real).
The best part about a monochrome look, is that much like a set, the pieces can be worn together or as separates, making your items go a long way. My number one tip when rocking a monochrome look is to focus on the shape and silhouette of your pieces. Since monochrome in general is simpler, I like to utilize silhouettes that I feel great in from head to toe, and those always seem to be timeless shapes. With a timeless shape, you know that when you break the set apart, it’ll still go with just about anything!
As always, let’s chat fit.
The fit of the skirt is phenomenal. I’m in the XL and It has an elastic waistband and the silk is not very stiff. It’s high waisted, but you can wear it where it’s most comfortable for you in your mid-section. The silk also drapes very well. I wear a very thin pair of shapewear with mine and found it creates smoothness and counteracts any static-cling. As far as the sweater goes, this has to be one of the best pieces I’ve ever worn. The back can be intimidating, let’s be honest. Being larger chested, dainty bras are not an option for me (and I got re-fitted recently and boy it’s made such a great difference). However, when I got fitted I also had them show me how to use boob tape! In this photo, I am wearing a strapless bra, but I’ve also worn this top with boob tape from adore me and it’s so easy and you get a lot of lift.
