Shacket (regular and plus), jeans, similar boots, bag
Since the pandemic started, I’ve had a really large shift in my mindset about trying new things. I think trying new things is so important, but it’s also good to have a balance when doing so. I take the approach of always being open minded and give something a shot, you never know what it could bring. But, if it truly would be a negative in your life or would not serve you, no need! With style for example, I used to be far more hesitant about new pieces or silhouettes, even when I liked them. Here’s the thing, if you know yourself and know your style, whatever you wear will flow with it – even if on paper it doesn’t exactly fit the bill at first glance. Because it’s your style, so if you like it, it works! My style has been, and likely always will be, classic and neutral (with a preppy and artful twist, as I like to call it). Enter the shacket.
I know the shacket might seem a little street cool, a little trendy and maybe even a little grunge or outdoorsy. But, I love them. I think they can be simple and sophisticated, and knew they could work on me. It’s just all about how you style them! I found the right fit with this taupe colored shacket, put my classic and simple twist on it, and voila! It’s one of my favorite pieces in my closet. My goal when I was on the hunt was to find one that was a little more polished and understated. One that felt a little bit more like blazer in terms of layering. I think the reason this one in particular works so well, is because it’s more fitted, plain and tailored. It’s structured, as opposed to the baggy style you see in a lot of shackets, so it immediately felt polished and achieved what I set out to find!
When it comes to the fit of this shacket, I would almost say that it hangs similarly to an oversized jean jacket if that makes sense. One of the reasons I gravitated towards it was because the shoulders had great proportions and weren’t the common dolman-style you see. The arms are a little bit roomy, but they don’t add any bulk. I got my normal XL in this one and am so happy with the fit. I can easily layer sweaters, shirts and cozies underneath. For styling, I went extra simple and tidy to give it that classic feel. I chose non-distressed denim, a white tee, timeless black accessories and pearls. If you pair anything with that base, you’ll come out with a classic ensemble! Long story short, I think it’s totally normal to have classic style present itself in different ways based on what you have going on in your life. For me right now, life is all about practicality – so things like basics, neutrals and classic pieces and this shacket is just that.

This is the inspo I needed to finally pull the trigger on a shacket!
I can honestly say “shacket” has never been in my vocabulary. I love it!
