My friend Paige and I are teaming up today to not only style our favorite Foxcroft shirt (forever twinning), but to also show you a few ways to use ginger jars! First, I want to chat about my friend Paige. We are 100% kindred spirits, and she has one of the wisest and kindest hearts ever. She and I instantly clicked and I feel so lucky to call her a friend. Paige and I both styled ginger jars in easy ways that go beyond the norm, to show you how to make the most of your favorite decor! Head over to Paige’s site to see the most amazing vignette you’ll ever lay eyes on (I’m serious, IDK how she does it lol) Here on SE, I wanted to show how to cluster your jars for a centerpiece! In my days as a buyer for One Kings Lane I came across a lot of ginger jars, and not all are created equal! I like to mix vintage, antique, and new as well as various shapes, sizes and patterns to create what I call a fun little conversation among the jars.
CLUSTERING YOUR GINGER JARS:
Step 1: Use an odd number of jars! The odd number will create a nice asymmetry that will appear symmetrical. If you cluster four jars, they will look stacked, if you cluster three or five, you can layer them so each one is semi visible! Kinda like a pyramid with the point coming toward you.
Step 2: Use different heights and shapes! By using different heights and shapes, you create a collected, curated look. Different shapes build a vignette that is interesting to the eye. In my opinion, pairs should be the same or similar, but groups should be a mix!
Step 3: Mix patterns and shades of blue! This is my favorite part. When an interior designer builds a room, they use various patterns, prints, materials and shades within the same color family. It creates a nice harmony that feels coordinated but not like a store bought set!
Step 4: Mix vintage and new! I am a huge proponent of antiques and vintage pieces, I think most of our apartment consists of antiques, Serena and Lily stuff, and then items from when I worked at OKL. I LIVE for the mix. Vintage pieces just look like they tell a story, and they have a history. My small jar is an antique from China I found in auction, and the larger two are from none other than One Kings Lane!
Step 5: Add flowers or greens! Here, I used faux Hydrangea because of #quarantine. But I love how the pop of green plays off the blue. I didn’t put greens in every jar, because it would feel a bit much or repetitive. I love how the larger bushel, small bushel and closed jar play off one another.
