There are few things I love more than a classic capsule that, for the most part, can be worn year-round. Having a great foundation to your wardrobe is something that I’ve found to be super helpful. It makes getting dressed a lot less stressful, I am consuming and buying less, and overall just have more order and happiness to my closet. Lands’ End is having a pretty incredible sale right now, so I thought I would share pieces I love from them that would make a great base to any closet or capsule. I have plans soon to share my ultimate capsule wardrobe, which is comprised of many brands and styles, and it’s safe to say that many of these would be included. The best part about this little capsule, is that it’s size-inclusive from head to toe!
All the links below come in regular and plus, for the plus version, above the sizes listed click “see plus sizes”. A few pieces also might be on backorder, but not too long.
A Great Trench :: The epitome of classic, a great beige trench will go a very long way. I find that it’s my favorite jacket in the fall and spring, and on warmer winter days I simply layer underneath. It’s the instant “outfit maker,” but it’s also incredibly practical. Keeps you warm, keeps you dry, and keeps you chic.
A Versatile Black Dress :: Whether you’re going to the office, date night, a wedding or anything in-between, a simple and structured black dress is a must. I have had the same black dress going on five years and every time I want to feel comfortable or don’t know what to wear, it’s always there to save the day. It’s so versatile.
A Pair of Chino’s or Ivory Jeans :: So many of you have expressed that you need pants other than denim, and I really like Lands’ End chinos. They make a few different leg cuts, and I like to opt for the slim or straight leg because they feel a little more sleek. You can wear them with just about anything. I think they look particularly cute with a white sweater and beige trench, very Diane Keaton in Something’s Gotta Give!
A Great Pair of Blue Jeans :: This one may be a little more obvious, but a great pair of polished medium wash jeans will be your best friend. I have this particular pair of jeans in blue, ivory and black – I think the cut is fantastic and the straight leg looks great.
A Cable Knit Sweater :: Is there anything more classic than cable-knit? Lately, a great cable-knit has been harder to find. This one is super cute and the knit is such that you can wear in the summer months, too. You can also layer over a button up.
A Cotton Cardigan :: The ultimate layering piece, a neutral cotton cardigan will be so useful over dresses, tanks and tops. But, it’s also a very lovely option to be worn on its own buttoned up with a cami underneath. It’s a powerhouse in my closet, because it’s both a stand alone option and an easy layer.
A Colorful yet Neutral Striped Tee :: I had to include something striped! I love how this striped tee is a little more interesting with the contrasting sleeves. A striped tee is a great “neutral” that’s also fun and adds a little pattern into the mix. I think you can wear this as a base layer under a cardigan, blazer or with a button up open and layered over top. Easy, casual and also fun.
A Classic White Button Up :: I love Lands’ End button up shirts. I would have to say my favorites are probably Foxcroft, Lands’ End and Old Navy (for a price friendly option). The buttons stay flush, it’s not tight in the shoulders, and overall I just feel comfortable and classic. I really can throw this on with anything and feel instantly pulled together. Another closet must.
An Easy Jacket for Layering in Cold Months :: While this jacket can only really be worn in the fall and winter, it makes for a great basic in your closet. The quilting is a little different, but the colors are neutral and classic. I love this style because it functions as both as outerwear and as a cute top layer. The long version can also be found here.
A Simple Sweater Blazer :: You know that blazers are a must have for me! I think they look great dressed up, dressed down, and instantly complete an outfit. This blazer is a nice comfy knit. While I do recommend a tailored blazer in your closet, this is perfect for everyday use.
A Few Pairs of Easy, Versatile Shoes :: A good pair of ballet flats, a nice pair of loafers, and simple white sneakers will go so far in your closet. Lands’ End footwear is friendly for wider feet. You can sub these out for any style or brand shoe you like, but I always think it’s good to have these three options!
A Timeless Canvas Tote :: A classic canvas tote is an amazing everyday bag. I use mine as my purse most days and it gives a really cute, classic and preppy touch to any look. A neutral color way will feel more year-round, too.
Great post and great timing! Land’s End has big sale going on that ends today. Thanks!
Perfect timing in coordination with the sale for these classics. Thank you for your great edit! I have found Lands End seems to have better inventory than most!
LOVE the quilted jacket – and on sale? Classic cut…colors. Yes!
