Iām sure you heard the news, Barbour launched plus sizes! Last year, when the coveted clothier came out with extended sizes, my heart skipped a beat. Okay, it skipped many beats! Barbour is an English lifestyle clothing brand known for their classic waxed jackets. I had worn Barbour jackets most of my life. Growing up an equestrian, I was always either at the stable or en route, so I sported mine day in and day out. I continued to wear them through adulthood, but when I crossed into the plus size range, my jacket was a struggle to fit into. A couple of years ago, I finally retired it to the storage closet, in the hopes of finding a good alternative, or that Barbour would extend their sizes. Low and behold, they did! And I have to tell you, they did an amazing job.
First off, are they worth it? Absolutely. I had some Barbours that held up over the course of a decade and then some. In fact, the Barbour I held on to in recent years was from 2009, and it still looks good. They truly stand the test of time, especially if you take care of them. The jackets were created to be durable and worn for sporting and life in the country. You can feel the quality and craftsmanship in the materials, construction and details. Today they are an iconic piece of classic style, worn for all occasions.
Most importantly, how is the fit? Speaking to the plus sizes, they definitely run true to size. They come in 1x, 2x and 3x. I am a true 1x but always order my jackets a size up to have the option to layer bulky pieces underneath. I really could have gotten my normal 1x here, and probably still would have had layering space, but I am happy with the roomy feel I went with. The proportions are well executed and appropriate for plus bodies. You can tell they really spent time on the extended size measurements.
I chose the ever popular Beadnell Waxed Cotton Jacket in sage and cuffed the sleeves to expose the plaid! Everytime I put on my jacket, I feel so polished, and I feel like my old self. It makes me over the moon Barbour expanded their sizes and feel like this is a classic style win for curvy women. You can shop their plus styles here.
Such a great jacket, you have it for life….and it looks wonderful on you!
That jacket looks great on you! I have the Beadnell (not waxed) and I like this one more š My mother in law wanted a jacket for years, but because there was no plus size she didn’t have one. I noticed them at Nordstrom last fall and we bought one for her for Christmas last year. She loves it! I’m so glad to see they are size inclusive. Hooray!
I have always liked barbour coats but could never get one in my size and I am still looking ladys size 22 or 24 depending on style really do hope you do these sizes
