Skirt (xl), same skirt in black floral, button up, similar flats, similar flats, glasses
There’s a Scott Fitzgerald quote that really sums up how I feel come October, “Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the Fall.” Every October, I get this rush of style inspiration from the plaids, the houndstooth, and all the Earth tones and neutrals. I love to get dressed just because and go for long walks to get coffee, enjoying the bite in the air. Something I’m leaning into a lot more lately are skirts. I love how you can pair them with a cozy knit, a blazer, or even a basic tee, and they feel a little bit different than the usual denim.
Chief among my love of skirts are slip skirts! They’re so dreamy, but they can be a little tricky to wear everyday. I tend to veer away from them in the warmer months, but really gravitate towards them when it cools off, because silk and sweat tend to not be comfy. My usual approach in styling a skip skirt is for a more dressy occasion with a cami or with a bodysuit. But recently I found myself pairing my slip skirts with either a crewneck sweater or (with my favorite combination) a classic and crisp button up! The combination gives me major French girl vibes.
Styling a slip skirt with a classic white button up brings a preppy and timeless twist to a sleek and more modern silhouette. I love my skirt (other color with more sizes here), and I have a trick. Instead of tucking the button up into the skirt, I fold the tails of my shirt under and tuck them into my bra wire. My shirt then drapes over the waistline and it looks tucked in, but it’s not! It gives the illusion of a tuck while keeping the hip area smooth. It’s really easy to do and you barely notice it. I feel like you can wear this combo on a casual date night, while working from home, for lunch with friends and everything in-between. Even to the office with a blazer depending on your dress code!
This specific skirt runs true to size in my opinion, has an elastic waistband (key), and the slit makes it easy to walk and move in, without being revealing. The slit is low enough you can still wear shapewear as well. My specific color has sold out in a few sizes, but the same exact skirt is also available in a pretty fall floral that I have my eye on! I linked a few other slip skirts I think are lovely as well.
