Anyone else feel like they blinked and all of a sudden, it was the week of Christmas?! That’s completely how I feel. The holidays are truly my favorite time of year, but I didn’t pay attention to a lot of the details that I usually do. I still have boxes of ornaments that I haven’t hung and gifts under the tree that I haven’t wrapped, but something in me this year said, just enjoy this moment and be present! In the end, the details will sort themselves out. Andrew and I always have a low-key New Year’s Eve, we’ve only gone to one festive bash in our 8 years together! We love being home and either going out to dinner or making filet mignon at home, followed by a candlelight movie marathon and ice cream. We’ll still get dressed nicely and it’s kind of become a special tradition for us. I wanted to share a cute New Year’s look that’s perfect for any occasion.
Best part of this look? You’ll wear it over and over, even after the holidays. When I first saw this top online, I really didn’t think I could pull it off. But then, I saw it in the store and thought, “oh okay, I really do like it, I guess I’ll try it on!” Once I did, I instantly felt fantastic. There’s something about black that just looks great on everyone and you instantly feel sophisticated. The clip dot completely elevates what would be a typical black top and gives it a fancier feel, without the need of sequins or shimmer. That feel however isn’t exclusive to the holidays, the black clip dot is a staple fabric that will work well right up until the spring. I also love the ruffle neckline detail, the subtle bow and wrist details. No stone went unturned with this top!
As always, let’s break down the fit and feel. I got my normal J.Crew XL in this top. It was a little snug where the bottom hem lands on my hips, so I would suggest sizing up only if you are sometimes in-between sizes, like I am. The snug feeling doesn’t really change how lovely it looks or the comfort level. I simply do a front tuck and it fit like a dream. The clip dot material isn’t too itchy either, that was a concern of mine, but it has a tank underneath so I was a-okay in this one. I styled this top with J.Crew’s classic curvy toothpick jeans and added some accessories that made it feel fun. The J.Crew Curvy toothpick jeans run true to size, some might even say roomy. However, unlike the blue washes, the black wash does not have stretch, so I sized up and they were perfect! A red lip, a statement bag, heels, and sparkly earrings did the trick. After New Year’s Eve, I’d probably style this exact outfit with ballet flats, straight leg jeans and pearls for a simpler, more relaxed feel.
