half-zip (30% off with code “festive”, xl), tartan flannel (sized down for a fitted look, otherwise tts), sneakers, jeans
Sometimes, I feel like I breeze over winter staples because I’m just so excited to get dressed for the holiday season. This time of year, it feels like a lot of the focus is on pajamas or party outfits, with a little bit less on everything in-between. So, I wanted to share a few great, size-inclusive winter staples that are perfect for right now, and can also carry you through January and February, too. I wear this outfit, or pieces from this outfit, what feels like every day. Actually, I didn’t even plan to take these photos, I happen to be wearing these, with little makeup and my hair pulled back, and felt pulled together, so I thought I would share them! Just a few great size-inclusive staples, I’ll cover fit and why I love them below.
Half-Zip Pullover
This pullover is probably the unsung hero of my closet right now. I wear this constantly, you’ve probably already seen me in this a ton. The pullover is so soft (hence the name, supersoft yarn), I could truly cozy up in this all day. It runs a bit big, I got my normal J.Crew XL and probably could have sized down to a large for a slimmer fit. But, I like how it’s a little roomy which is great for layering. The arms overall are proportionate to the body, I have short arms so I have to cuff almost all my sweaters, I did a little half cuff and it was perfect. I love this alone with jeans, layered over a flannel or tissue turtleneck, or with trousers for a little dressy look, too.
Flannel Shirt
A flannel is a closet must have once the temps drop! I personally love this darker plaid because it feels festive for right now, but as we transition out of the holiday season, the color palette works for everyday. I sized down one in this for a slimmer fit, but I would get your regular size here. In hindsight, I wish I got my normal size but I love it regardless. The construction of the flannel is amazing, it doesn’t feel bulky and it fits like a relaxed dress shirt. I think this looks adorable with jeans, tucked into a skirt, or under a blazer as a layering piece, too.
Everyday sneakers
I am obsessed with these sneakers! Guys, seriously, these are insanely comfortable. I have the neutral color way and just ordered the green pair. Sneakers are a great winter staple becuase on the days where you don’t choose to opt for a boot, you can throw on some cozy socks and be on your way. They’re a nod to the 70s sneaker trend we’re seeing a bit right now, but in a much more subtle and classic way. That’s what I love about J.Crew, they do a fantastic job of taking current trends but presenting them in ways that feel classic and understated. I got my normal size here and wear them with everything from everyday denim, to joggers and pants.
Curve Love Medium Wash Jeans
A few years ago when Abercrombie came “back on the scene,” so to speak, I didn’t think much of it because frankly, even as a teen I didn’t feel quite welcomed there. They’ve recently done a good job with extending their sizes, showing various bodies and sizes on their website, and their jeans are incredible. They carry regular fit and “curve love,” which is meant for pear or curvy figures of all sizes. If you get that waist gap in your jeans, chances are you could benefit from a curvy fit, it tapers a bit in the waist while giving more room in the hips/bottom. These jeans gave been a game changer for me. I get my normal size 16 in these! They also come in regular, short and tall.
