Headband, Pullover, Jeans, Shoes (c/o)
This fall brings a whole new meaning to comfy and cozy, and I have found myself leaning towards elevated basics day in and day out. When it comes to basics, I have my list tried and true brands that I love, which includes a mix of both plus-size and standard sizes. But, I wanted to share some plus-size specific brands that I wear and love, especially this cozy Fall. With more and more fabulous brands extending their sizing, it’s hard to create one singular, comprehensive list. But, for those looking for classic style with a particularly preppy panache, these retailers will never fail you. Let’s chat about what I am loving from each right now and why!
J.CREW FACTORY
Have you checked out Factory lately? It’s filled with old school J.Crew style pieces and I seriously love everything. One of the main reasons I appreciate Factory is that they make really great foundational pieces in neutrals and rich fall colors. Two favorites include their sweatshirts and sweater blazers. They are the epitome of elevated, everyday casual style. Especially their popovers, sweaters and flannels. I wear an XXL in every top, 34 in pants, and an 18 or 20 in dresses.
J.JILL
J.Jill has been making some ADORABLE pieces lately! They are more classic than preppy, even a little “earthy” at times. But, they make some of the best plus-size classic, everyday items. Lately, I have been loving their tunic sweaters. You can wear them over leggings and feel comfy yet pulled together. Their quilted and plaid outerwear pieces are classic preppy and I have my eye on their jackets. I love their current color palette, too. I wear a 1x in most items and a 16w.
J.CREW
The best of the best! With each season, J.Crew’s plus-size proportions and fit get better and better. I love all things J.Crew, but currently their denim, sweaters and jackets are not only practical, but make me feel like I have it together while staying comfy. Their supersoft yarn collection is incredibly soft (hence the name) and so worth it. Their curvy fit toothpick denim is my #1 pair of jeans that I wear nearly daily. All the fall colors and patterns are so dreamy, and what I imagine all of Rory’s classmates would wear in the Fall at New Haven. I wear an xxl or 2x and an 18/20 here.
TALBOTS
Would this list be complete without Talbots?! IMO, Talbots has the best plus-size proportioned pieces. Their sweaters, vests and denim have been some of my favorites for a long time. But in this season, I have been loving their casual line, T by Talbots. The cotton pieces are so soft, and their loungewear feels elevated yet intentional. Perfect for days at home when I just can’t put pants on lol. I am a 1x or 16w in all Talbots pieces.
MADEWELL
Like J.Jill, I wouldn’t necessarily refer to Madewell as a tried and true “preppy” brand, but they definitely carry preppy pieces that have a cool girl edge. Their bodysuits are the absolute best and I wear them weekly with a cardigan and jeans. I lean into their sweaters, blouses and blazers, too. Right now, their coats are so good, so many classic fall colors!! I wear a 2x and 20 here.
LANDS END
It is no secret that I love Lands’ End extended sizes. For the longest time, they have remained dedicated to classic plus-size pieces. This Fall, I have been loving their leggings, cashmere and down outerwear pieces. I wrote a post here on why they make my favorite cashmere! Their pieces are perfect for our new normal of working from home, and can go from cozy to polished for a zoom or socially distant lunch. I wear a 1x or 16w in all Lands’ End.
Thank you! Love these tips for cozy fall pieces.
