Happy Sunday! Instead of a coffee post today and another big roundup of items, I wanted to share four core items that are worth grabbing right now. I got my first cocoon coat about three years ago, and I have to say, it’s one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. Period. I have never felt better in a piece of outerwear. I feel so chic, classic, tailored and polished in this coat (not to mention warm). Being plus size, it is hard to find a really well made, structured coat that feels as nice as it looks. This solved that problem for me. The wool and construction are great quality, piling is minimal, and the fit works on many body types. The fit is more straight vs. a-line, so I ended up trying two sizes out because I am in-between. I would say it runs true to size, many say it even runs big. Try one size at a time, if you are curvy or plus I would try your normal size first, and if that doesn’t work go up or down one depending. I tried an 18 and a 20, and the 18 was perfect (note I did not size down, I ended up in my normal J.Crew size).

I actually have to get all my blazers and jackets tailored because I have short arms! So, don’t be afraid of the concept of tailoring either, especially in a forever piece like this. It is worth it, and frankly it’s wise. I had the arms shortened a little bit at my local tailor, and that one trip to the tailor for years of a perfect fit was so worth it. Hey, it may fit you perfectly right out of the box, too! This has to be my desert island item. Not sure I’d wear it on an island, but if I could only keep one article of clothing, it would be this guy.

Last Christmas, Andrew got me a packable Neely and Chloe bag I had been eyeing. Aside from my totes, it is my most used bag. It has a long strap, but I prefer to carry it by the top-handles. Long live the Nordic Boot. Seriously, these have been the best. Going on my third season with them, and they look good as new. When it gets colder, I pretty much wear these or duck boots from December to March. They are so stylish, but they are built like a brick house. You can swap out the laces depending on what you are doing for. I wear the red laces and I also wear the brown ones for a more subtle look. I will be getting a black pair, because they have proven to be a workhorse in my winter wardrobe. Because they are a very elevated cold weather boot, you can dress them up or down. I wear mine usually with leggings or jeans and sweaters, but I’ve also paired them with sweater dresses, tights and skirts. From a comfort perspective, they take few wears to break in, which only speaks to the point they are well made. Once they break in, they are so comfortable. The boots are not too heavy, either. I got my normal size 9 and can wear them with thick and thin socks alike. Similar cute style here that I love.

The best classic cashmere sweater I have tried in recent years has to be from Lands’ End. I have a few colors now, and they hold up well over time. I just treat mine with this Remington Sweater Razor when it pills, only fold it and hand wash if need be. I think that goes for any cashmere! It looks far more expensive than it is, and the cashmere is soft and light, but also durable. Some cashmere can be so thin and fine that it gets holes easily, this is the perfect density. Comfortable but thick enough to make things practical. I enjoy wearing these while working from home, with party pants for the season, with denim and pretty much anything else you could think of. Something that I absolutely love are understated statement earrings. I love the delicate and dainty minimalist trend, but am still one to opt for a modern classic take on a pearl drop earring. I have had the Mirren stud earring from Julie Vos for six years now and they remain one of my most worn pairs.
